Going Overboard

“You’re making a lot of changes.”

“Do you think that maybe you’re going a little overboard with this?” (This being my walk with God.)

These are some of the things people have said to me recently.

And they’re right. I have made a lot of changes – but isn’t that the point?

We aren’t called to be lukewarm Christians. We aren’t meant to put God in a box on the shelf, only pulling it down when it's convenient for us.

This morning, I’m reminded of the story of Simon Peter.

In Luke 5, Jesus is teaching by the lake when He steps into Simon Peter’s boat to speak to the crowd. After preaching, Jesus tells Simon Peter to put the nets out into deep water. Simon Peter is hesitant because they had worked all night without catching anything, but he obeys. When they lower the nets, they catch so many fish that the nets begin to tear, and the boats begin to sink. After seeing this miracle, Simon Peter falls before Jesus. Jesus responds by reassuring him and calling him to a new purpose. So, Simon Peter leaves everything behind and follows Jesus.

After bringing in the catch of his life, Simon Peter left it all behind and followed Jesus. Because isn’t that the point?

That’s the life we’re called to lead.

God wants us to jump overboard and follow Him. Some people in your life may not understand that – they may question your motives. Let them. Their opinions don’t matter. But God’s does.

Today, I just want to encourage you to follow Jesus with everything you have. I think you’ll be glad you did.
